Drumming and nothingness
This was recorded in the lovely hillside town of Vashisht, India where I spent a week in silent contemplation.
Metal machine orchestra
There is so much happening right now across from my apartment. The other day I just sat down on the sidewalk and absorbed the strikes, pounds and grinds of a building under construction.
Fix it up
This summer by balcony almost came crumbling down on top of me. There was some heavy work to be done and a lot of metal on metal action to be heard by all.
Toronto Cafe
While in Toronto I had some time to kill. Searching for a quiet place to read I entered a little cafe....
After the fall
There are so many things around around us that can remind us of something else, so many present events that echo the events of the past. Here are two such events.
2am fire engines
When rumor of a fire enters the ether who do you call? I call the noise machine, a large red box that emerges from the hydrants outside my window and makes a ghost like hum.
White noise in the park
Sitting next to a water fountain challenges our brains in many ways. With so much information coming into our heads, via our ears, it is amazing that we can still enjoy the chirp of the birds or the giggle of a young tot.
Marching band Bodh Gaya, India 2005
I was eating lunch when suddenly a rush of music filled the air:
Midnight dips
Pool walking in Mexico in January. This was before I had a handheld recorder so everything took place with my computer and sound card resting on a plastic foot stool in the middle of the water.
One rainy night
Having heard the siren song of falling water, my hand was drawn into a wet alleyway where many small secrets revealed themselves, one after the other.
Watched from a boat
A week of dry and barren wonders at Burning Man left my ears alive and craving the crisp curls of a folding lake shore. Thank America for American Falls, Idaho! My thirst was finally quenched.
Sounds of water
I recorded this yesterday at the Oratory St Joseph. I like that you're able to explore the bare, dripping foundation beyond the walls. It makes the building seem more alive.
